"The Little Mamma"

To those of you to whom this applies - Happy Mother's Day!

This Currier & Ives lithograph originally sold at 6 cent apiece wholesale, & was available uncolored. They were often used in grade schools where the young pupils colored them, hopefully staying within the lines.

The Currier & Ives firm also employed a staff of 12 young German women as colorists. All sat @ a long table, & each would only apply 1 watercolor. When she had finished it would be passed on to the next worker bee until it was fully colored. It would then go on to a senior woman, known as the "Finisher" who would unify the whole & touch up where necessary.

Cheap, fast & easy - commercial printers for post cards, business cards & show announcements

The 3 commercial printers I usually use to print my announcements are all located right here in SoCal. They are: "Overnight Prints" (not really, but they can be pretty fast); "Americas Printer" (located in Buena Park); & "Modern Postcard".  Usually, the larger the volume needed, the more inexpensive the job. Once you've done business with them, "Overnight Prints" sends you emails regarding special offers that are especially low-priced.
I'll put the web-site links over to the right on the blog. With all 3 companies, you design the card & upload it for printing. As Tyler would say: "Easy-Peasy."

For the wood engraving print exchange I have figured out the configuration for both the vertical and horizontal formats.

You can get 6 prints from one sheet of BFK (22 x30) see sample.

Have fun, and let's make some great art!

ART 370 - Extra Credit Show ! ! ! !

"The Darker Side of Light: Arts of Privacy 1850 - 1900"
Where:  UCLA Hammer Museum - 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Westwood
http://hammer.ucla.edu

The Darker Side of Light reveals private pains from the bright Impressionist period. A new exhibition of late 19th Century etchings (plus a few lithographs - for Tyler, small sculptures and other works)

Good for three points if you can bring back a piece from the show (not really - just post something interesting for us to read on the blog.)
