Live Music Performances and Free Hepatitis C Testing

HepCAware.org will present their first annual Hepatitis C Awareness free community event at the Liquid Lounge in Long Beach, Saturday May 30th. There will be a full day of live music from local musicians affected by Hepatitis C and Hep C advocates. Performing at the benefit will be the "Father of the Long Beach blues scene", Bernie Pearl; local favorites Holly Light, Patsy Grind, Michelle Mangione and Master B, including Kelly's Lot, fronted by HepCAware.org founder Kelly Z. Kelly's Lot is the National Spokesband for the Hep C Awarness campaign.

In addition to the free concert there will also be free screening and antibody testing available from 1 -6 pm. This event remembers those who have lost the battle with Hepatitis C and those who are struggling to survive. Increased awareness will lead to more intense research on curing the disease and also help those infected learn how to best live with Hep C. They will be raffling off a lot of great prizes with the money going directly to the Hepatitis foundation including a signed guitar by Grace Slick and donated by Michelle.

There is no vaccine for Hepatitis C. It is a virus that attacks the liver and is spread by blood-to-blood contact. Although 1 in 50 Americans have the disease, 2 out of 3 do not know it. Persons who are most at risk are those who have received blood, blood products or an organ transplant prior to 1992, if you have been involved with drug abuse (either injecting or snorting), have been patients of dialysis, tattooed or pierced, shared personal care items, been incarcerated or have been a war veteran (especially Vietnam).

Please come out and support us at this most important event. For more info:
